In 1973, 10 survivors were brought up to the AC-130H standard with the installation of uprated T56-A-15 engines. The AC-130H fleet was assigned to the 16th Special Operations Squadron, at the end of the Vietnam War, the remaining AC-130H aircraft returned to the US to serve with the 1st Special Operations Wings at Eglin AFB. Five AC-130Hs were used in Desert storm to conduct night operations against ground targets. The AC-130’s were retired in 1995.
