The C-119 Flying Boxcar first flew in 1947, more than 1,000 were built. This was derived from the wartime C-82 Packet which became the tactical transport workhorse of the USAF, replacing both the C-82 and C-47. It was also built for the USN, USMC, India, Italy and Belgium. Other Air Forces also acquired fleets of C-119s retired from USAF service, among them the Republic of China Air Force which received 120 of the C-119G model in 1969.
