The C-23 Sherpa was developed from the Short’s SC.7 Skyvan a civil passenger and cargo carrier. The C-23 is high-winged, twin-tailed and appealed to the USAF as an economical transport for tactical items such as jet engines, radar sets, and ordnance. The box-shaped fuselage of the aircraft can be loaded through a large forward freight door, a full-width hydraulically operated rear ramp door, and removable roller conveyors.
