At an altitude of around 30,000 ft, the E-2C is able to observe aircraft at ranges of up to 300 miles (480 km) with the latest APS-148 radar. This has demonstrated that it can detect incoming cruise missiles at distances, which exceed 160 miles (258km). The E-2C may also be used as a fighter control platform, with the data link facility allowing it to furnish information on heading, altitude and speed of targets to F-14 Tomcats undertaking combat air patrol duty.
