Northrop F-5E Tiger II evolved from the F-5A Freedom Fighter as a private venture. It represented a significant improvement in terms of performance and capability it was eventually ordered in quantity for supply to friendly nations in December 1970 after emerging victorious in the International Fighter Aircraft competition. The F-5E is used only as an adversary aircraft, flying profiles designed to simulate the MIG-17 and MIG-21, and other lightweight maneuverable threat aircraft.
