The Northrop F-5E Tiger II evolved from the F-5A Freedom Fighter as a private venture, and represented a significant improvement in terms of performance and capability. It was eventually ordered into quantity for supply for friendly nations in December 1970 after emerging victorious in the International Fighter Aircraft competition. The F-5E is used only as an adversary aircraft, flying profiles designed to simulate the MIG-17 and MIG-21’s and other lightweight maneuverable threat aircraft.
