The F-6F was a brilliant example of combining sound engineering skills with the results of combat experience. It was arguably the most successful shipboard fighter of all time. The F-6F is a single-seat shipboard fighter with at least 306 pilots achieving ace status while flying with US Navy squadrons during WWII, a larger figure than any other aircraft. The Hellcat obtained a better kill-to-loss ratio of 19:1, a figure unrivalled, for its Navy and Marine pilots were credited with 5,156 victories for the loss of just 270 F6Fs.
