The HH-65 Dolphin’s primary task is short-range recovery (SRR) SAR operations but it is also employed in narcotics interdiction, environmental protection, airlift and support of polar ice-breaking operations. It is also capable of flying search and rescue with the copilot to assisting in visual searches. The Dolphin’s distinctive feature is the shrouded, 11-blade tail rotor which makes it relatively quiet in flight. It is equipped with an EFIS and Northrop Sea Hawk FLIR.
