The KC-135 Stratotanker was derived from the Boeing's famous model 367-80 prototype and was built in prodigious quantities between 1956 and 1965. 732 KC-135A tankers were delivered to Strategic Air Command, with a further 88 transport and special variants making the grand total of 820 KC-135's purchased. Aircraft 55-3118 was the first KC-135A delivered, named 'City of Renton', and it took to the air for the first time on 31 August 1956.
