Lockheed’s design department rounded out the PV line with the PV-2, which had a superficially similar configuration. It flew in prototype form on December 3, 1943 and was far more than a cosmetic update. A new wing of greater span, larger fins and rudders, a reprofiled fuselage and heavier armament made the PV-2 Harpoon, a much more effective warplane.
