The B-47 Stratoget was the final variant of the USAF's first worthwhile strategic jet bomber to become fully operational. It entered service in 1946 and remained operational until the 1966 when the last one was taken out of service, approx 1,800 aircraft were built. The aircraft had been designed in 1945 and production had gone through three principal versions: the B-47A of 1950 (10 built); the B-47B of 1951 (380); the B-47E of 1953 (1,359 built, followed by RB-47E). On the 15th February 1947 the production lines closed, and in the same year the USAF started to relegate the B-47s to photo-reconnaissance and training.
