The Sopwith Pup was a single-seat, single-engine biplane fighter that first flew in February 1916. Due to its small size and strong family resemblance to the Sopwith 11/2 Strutter, it was quickly dubbed the ’Pup’ - an name that eventually became official. Two semi-original Pups are maintained in flying order today, one of which is the Shuttleworth Collection’s N6181 that was converted from a two-seat civilian Sopwith Dove. powered by a Gnome rotary engine and armed with a single machine gun.
