The first airplane flown by tens of thousands of Air Force officers and pilots is the T-37B Tweety Bird, which was used since the late 50’s as the USAF’s primary jet trainer. The aircraft is a conventional, all-metal, twinjet monoplane with student pilot (at left) and instructor (at right) seated in side-by-side ejection seats beneath a single broad clamshell canopy. The T-37 has manual controls with electric trim, hydraulic slotted flaps, and hydraulic landing gear.
