The T-44A Pegasus began to replace the Grumman TS-2A Tracker in the advanced training role in 1977 and some 61 aircraft had been delivered by the time procurement terminated in 1980. Most of these remain in use today, but five T-44B’s have recently been purchased as attrition replacements. This aircraft is an intermediate training program which is used as one element of special training designed to produce aircrew for the E-2C Hawkeye and C-2A Greyhound. In the training role, it is configured to carry one pilot and two students. It can be configured for utility missions carrying two aircrew and three passengers. In addition, Multi-engine aircraft training is a primary mission of the T-44A.
