The USAAF first ordered the Beech 18S commercial light transport under the military designation of C-45 in 1940. This was followed by deliveries of more than 4,000 aircraft which is a measure of the usefulness of this model. Other varients were also produced including the C-45A, B, and F the latter model being the standardized type. They performed numerous useful roles including those of VIP transport and crew trainer.
